Sunday’s game in both the Lady Mary Trophy and Carter NACO Shield provided some brilliant sunshine cricket.
Beccles reached their fourth consecutive Lady Mary Trophy with a last ball thriller at Bradfield; with 2 overs to go and 3 wickets in hand Bradfield needed 8 runs to win, matters quickly changed as they lost two quick wickets to put Beccles back in the driving seat; off the last over Bradfield were left with 4 runs to get and 1 wicket to fall; however the twist in the game meant the over went down to the last ball and Beccles scrambled over the line to win by 2 runs; for Bradfield skipper Chris Scannell watched the drama unfold and was left stranded on 115 not out.
In the other semi-final Acle beat Dersingham by 48 runs to set up a derby semi-final at Horsford on 23 August; batting first Acle made 216 for 5 off their 50 overs; T Wilson scoring an impressive 89 not out to beat Dersingham by 48 runs – Dersingham reaching 168 for 8 off their 50 overs.
In the Carter NACO Shield Hethersett & Tas Valley beat Martham despite a hat trick from A Sayer from Martham who produced match figures of 4 for 61; HTV reached 247 all out off 40 overs with Bryce notching up an impressive 60; in the Martham innings Sayer scored 57 and Dunn 56 but they fell 30 runs short in scoring 217 all out.
The other semi-final between Thetford and Vauxhall Mallards Development produced a win for Thetford by 31 runs; Thetford batting first scored 233 for 8 with Liam Conroy top scoring with 96 and Ryan Conroy unbeaten on 43; the evergreen Steve Goldsmith took 3 for 48 off eight overs.
