CARTER CUP & NACO CUP COMPETITIONS 2015 – Sunday 10 May 2015
Sunday saw the games left over from the previous week which had been cancelled due to bad weather being played in glorious conditions at Cromer and Great Witchingham.
Both games saw Alliance Premier League opposition up against opposition from the EAPL and in both cases the “underdog” ruled the roost.
At Cromer the home team batted first and made 192 All Out with contributions from Matthew Warnes 59 and Anthony Robinson 40 with the ball J Timms 3 for 36 and K Peters 3 for 44 were the mainstay of the Horsford bowlers.
In reply Horsford came up 57 runs short and seemingly were never going to reach the Cromer total. For Horsford Stephen Marieller was the only batsman who got going scoring 46 and for Cromer Anthony Robinson and Warnes who earlier had scored valuable runs both picked up 3 wickets, Warnes 3 for 11 and Robinson 3 for 37; Paul Winterborne also got in on the act with 3 for 22.
At Great Witchingham the “Witches” batted first and posted 236 for 6 with J Hale posting the first century in this year’s competition with a fine 103; he was ably abetted by J Spelman who scored 54, for Old Buckenham; Andy Lawrence took 3 wickets.
In reply Old Buckenham went into tea after 30 overs with 108 on the board for the loss of 4 wickets, however the wickets didn’t fall in the games last session and they reached their target with 6 wickets intact due to a fine innings of 84 not out by the evergreen Peter Free ably supported by James Heaney finishing on 54 not out.
Terry Perry’s Old Buckenham and Tom Davies Cromer therefore join last week’s winners in the 2nd Round of the Carter Cup which will be drawn live on Radio Norfolk on Friday 15 May 2015 at approximately 6.25 pm.
The first round losers now go into the Carter/NACO Trophy and the predetermined draw for the 50 overs per side competition is as follows:
Ashmanaugh & Barton Wanderers v Horsford
Great Witchingham v Fakenham
Stow v Lowestoft
North Runcton v Sprowston
All games to be played on 7 June 2015.
The second round draw for the Carter Cup will take place live on Radio Norfolk on Friday 15 May 2015 at approximately 6.25 pm
The teams through to the Second Round are: Diss, Cromer, Old Buckenham, Downham, Swardeston, Brooke, Vauxhall Mallards and Norwich – Vauxhall Mallards due to other commitments at their ground have conceded home advantage.
